When I was thinking of how I wanted to do Stone of The Month I decided to choose a Crystal that would represent what I felt the month means to me. April in my mind  is rebirth, new growth, saying Goodbye to Winter and beginning anew with a clean slate after the dark days of winter.

When I was researching April, I was surprised to learn that my thoughts on April weren’t actually a coincidence, April comes from the Latin verb “Aperire” which means “to open.” A time to Bloom.

For this reason, I have chosen Moonstone as our Stone of The Month.

Moonstone is considered  the stone of new beginnings. In resembling the Earth’s moon, it reminds one of life’s different and endless cycles, just like the 4 seasons. It awakens  the memory that each phase of a cycle is a new beginning. Supporting inner growth and strength.

After all, the moon renews every 28 days!

Moonstone is said to be excellent for clarifying our vision of the future, hope and inspiration.

Moonstone works with all Chakras except for the root chakra. It is also considered a birthstone for the month of June.

Moonstone is a variety of the feldspar-group mineral orthoclase. During formation, orthoclase and albite separate into alternating layers. When light falls between these thin layers it is scattered producing the phenomenon called adularescence. Adularescence is the light that appears to billow across a gem.

Deposits of moonstone occur in Armenia (mainly from Lake Sevan), Australia, the Austrian Alps, Mexico, Madagascar, Myanmar, Norway, Poland, India, Sri Lanka, and the United States.Historically, the most valuable, transparent moonstones with strong blue sheen came from Myanmar. Today, most commercial moonstones come from Sri Lanka.

Cleaning, Cleansing and Charging

It is important to cleanse and charge your crystal. Moonstones are highly sensitive and pick up the energy around them, even if stored away.

Regularly cleanse and recharge your moonstone by placing it near saltwater or running water overnight.

Another way is to bring your moonstone with you when you go outside. Sunlight and fresh air will help cleanse and recharge the stone for you.

You can also leave your moonstone outside on the night of a full moon.

Smudging your stones will immediately remove negative energies

Warm soapy water is the only recommended substance for cleaning moonstones. Never use a jewelry cleaner or a machine.
